Urban design as a career

I'm agree with the information planted in the podcast, it is to sad that urban planning is a young career, just imagine how different would looked the world if the cities were developed with order and designed according to the needs of the people instead of the simple intuition.
Also I think it is important for this and new generations to come, to learn how to work in company of the urban planners because we must to work together to make an amazing job, to explode all the potential of the projects we design (in case we are talking about the buildings and cities) there’s no space for architects with cube minds, this century brings us evolution and new ways of thinking, we have to back off our pride, and work together, architects and urban planners.

The purpose of architecture

I totally agree with buildings are not just a shelter, because a building, it’s like a book in the history, every thought in the different ages of the world are reflected in the architecture of that age, that means that architecture it’s the representation of the society, yes a building brings protection from the weather and also from other humans (friends of the things that belong to others) but more than that a building it’s the structural representation of the feelings, the thoughts, the problems, the social status, the life of the people who live there, even more than what it can tell to us about the architecture itself. The building more than be just a simple structure it’s like the extension of our skin, we are making it so much part of us, making it almost an exactly representation of us.. So more than a shelter, a building is the representation of our life in a structure. So, for me, basically the purpose of the architecture it’s all about that, make a place that can bring us protection but, also a place that represent us, a place that can be long enough to stay in our history and then tell to the future what are we thinking now.

Paragraph 1

Comparing and contrasting: architecture and urban planning.

Well, first that all, I think that if I want to make a comparing and contrasting text between two careers, they have to have something in common, their characteristics, the objectives, something. So, from the beginning I’m establishing that Architecture and Urban planning have something in common, and for me are precisely the characteristics and the objectives.
Both of them, architecture and urban planning are related with the area of design, both manipulate areas to develop spaces, but urban planning work in another scale, now there’s not just the space of a building it’s the space of the whole city, the urban planners has to put order in the growing of the city. However Both of them, architects and urban planners are looking the best of the people and the design it’s the response of that.
The difference that I see is that architect are more related with art and urban planning with engineering, urban planning is about ordering the city, distributing the routs, and constructing areas, instead, architects are worried about the design of buildings. For me architects design the buildings and the urban planners locate them.

How does Caracas stand in terms of both, architecture and urban planning?

Well I’m not from Caracas, I’m from Valencia, Carabobo State, but after three years of living in Caracas it makes think that it’s very disorganized, that it hasn’t much urban planning support. But I’ve heard that at the beginning existed some plans that were very good about the organization of the city, and they had kind of good ideas. For example, it’s supposed that in Bolivars Av. Should be all the ministries and at the end of the Av the Simon Bolivar cenotaph, but that are just in plans. In the aspect of architecture, I think it reflects the time and the boom of every age, like France Square totally in contrast with the four season hotel. In architecture, every building is different from other one, but represent the time when it was built, for me Caracas is the book of the Venezuelan History.
